Rainbow Bright Stripes

Happy Thursday!  Only a little bit until the weekend!  

I am on a rainbow kick.  Perhaps it is do to watching too many cartoons...as a child because obviously what mature adult watches "The Kids Next Door" on Netflix while working on rainbow and striped cards?  It could not be me...no way.  Okay, you got me.  It's me.  I still relish enjoy cartoons.  

Whatever the reason, I had a lot of fun using the Lines Border stamp set from Paper Wings Productions and my rainbow color palette to create cards that are featured on The Aviary today.

Man Oh Man Monday No. 4

Hello, hello, hello!  For once I hope I disappoint you with the offerings in this post if you are here for the Ugliest Card Ever Blog Hop (you can find my post and uglies HERE).

It's another Man Oh Man Monday and a little later than I had intended.  I have to be honest that with a free weekend of HBO and Cinemax, I was weak and succumbed to watching a few movies this weekend.  It was all research for Man Oh Man Monday I swear!  I had to catch "Cowboys & Aliens" and "The Running Man" to better make a manly card.  I will have to ask my tax preparer if I could get a tax write off if I subscribed to HBO and Cinemax....

I still squeezed in making a couple of cards inspired by some crafting videos I saw this past week.  I would rate these Easy Going.  I saw a Hero Arts video on mosaics which really was the impetus for the cards this week.  I still had my Studio Calico card kit out on my work table so that is where the patterned paper came from.

In a haphazard way, I cut strips and then rectangles of patterned paper.  Of course you can be as precise as you want, measuring everything.  I used Claudine Hellmuth's Studio Multi-Medium Matte to adhere the pieces of patterned paper in the exact same manner as Libby Hickson did using Modge Podge.  I adhered the mosaic panel to a card base.  The sentiment is stamped on a strip of white cardstock that I adhered to a strip of vellum.  I hid the adhesive on the vellum under the strip of white card stock.  The sentiment is stamped with charcoal grey ink.

The pearls are actually little drops of Viva Pearl Pen that I squeezed onto my craft sheet and let dry, this was something I picked up from Jennifer McGuire in the Pattern Play class over at Online Card Classes. I recommend letting it dry for a few hours...maybe cook dinner and watch a movie or two in the meantime. I am just sayin'. After the little pearls were dry I used Copics to color them. Another tip is to not loosen the pearls from the craft sheet until after you color them otherwise they move around.

MOMM Tips:
MOMM Tip No. 1: Watch tv...or videos rather.  This isn't what your parents told you, but I urge you to check out YouTube, Vimeo and other sites with a plethora of hours of free crafting goodness.
MOMM Tip No. 2: Customize.  Use markers, paints or other coloring mediums to customize accents.

Ugliest Card Ever Blog Hop

And boy do I!  I think most of mine have something in common: purple.  Purple may be my kryptonite.  That plus the photos of these doozies really make for an ugly picture.

My first nomination goes to this odious oddity:

I remember this card and my process, but where did it go wrong?  First, the color combination.  That dark dried out prune color with lime green is not pretty.  Not pretty at all.  And then all that stuff.  I think moderation took a vacation when I made this card.  This card was originally posted HERE.

My second nomination goes to this white-washed wallop of a wacky card:

I remember proudly making this....  It showcased my awesome Cricut cutting and Cuttlebug embossing skillz.  A bow and a knot on the button...brilliant.  Wasn't one enough?  Obviously not. I don't think I ever posted this one.  I wonder why?

My third nomination goes to putrid purple pain-in-the-eye:

Purple foiled me again.  Tripped me up.  Made me fall flat on my face.  Beat me up and came out the clear winner.  Some parts are good, but somehow the colors are all wrong together.  Ugh.  The card was originally posted HERE.  Yep, that post is a bevy of purple pretties.

You would think I would part ways with purple after these disasters.  Nope.  Purple still shows up.

Papertrey Ink's March 2013 Blog Hop: Sequins

Welcome fellow Papertrey Ink lovers! 

I am going to try to make this sort of short and sweet as I know you are hopping along to so many amazing blogs and it is also way too late when I type this.

I went with making a rainbow set of cards with the same design, dies and stamps.  In my sequin collection I found a box of multi-colored swirl sequins have had for years...so long that I don't recall when or exactly where I bought them.  I separated the colors out and chose colors for the cards I made from the color families I found.

I just got my March release order and I (like many I am sure) was over the moon for Maile Belles' new Birthday Style and Bountiful Banners sets.  I stamped the solid streamer on a piece of white cardstock.  I die cut the Boutiful Banners die from white cardstock as well and stamped the sentiments using the same ink.  I adhered the sequins onto the streamers.  I first tried glue, but found mini glue dots to be easier and less mess.  The little HB circle is adhered with dimensional adhesive.

I adhered this panel with dimensional adhesive to a white cardstock card base that I adhered a matching patterned paper stripe of paper to.  And that's it!  I love how fun these all turned out together and I could easily replicate this design for any occasion.
