Coming Soon...

Dear Reader,

My handwriting and some of my doodles will soon be available in stamp form over at Paper Wings Productions.  Along with these stamps, are several awesome stamps by my friends, JulieLizhandmade by Lissie girl and cling stamp sets by Carrie Avery, the owner of and brain behind Paper Wings Productions, that are great for autumn, the upcoming holidays and well beyond.

Carrie has also been extremely busy working on the updated website and packaging.  For sneaks and more information, check out The Aviary.

Here are bits of a few cards I made with my new stamps with some previously released Paper Wings Productions stamps:

What do you think?  Excited to see more?  Check back here and on The Aviary for more projects and inspiration.

Happy Friday,
Shay.

Meet the Papier Family

Dear Readers,

I want to introduce you to the Papier Family, a diverse family of eccentrics that live in a sprawling old estate named Verdigris Hall.  Where Verdigris Hall exists is a mystery and how to happen upon it is through the magic of imagination.

The first members of the Papier Family you will meet are Marcel, Sophie, Louise and Luc.

Now don't tell anyone, but I have a bit of a crush on Marcel with his dapper suit, hats, cane and curling mustache.  This is one urbane gentleman who is always immaculately turned out no matter where he is going (even ventures to the beach require a special three piece bathing suit). Marcel is an arbiter of the arcane and curious...automatons, clocks, flying ships and ciphers being some of his interests.

Sophie is a super sweet girl that loves to give and receive gifts including hearts, balloons and candy...every day she celebrates a birthday even if it is for a frog she happens upon while playing near Veridian Pond, a famous person, a character in a book or Annette at the bakery (she's a constant visitor as Sophie has a sweet tooth).

Louise (Lulu to friends and everyone is her friend) is a great believer in friendship.  She is never without her winged friend, Mimi.  Lulu is a lover of plants and flowers and she spends hours in the gardens, conservatory and greenhouse.  She writes letters to numerous friends from across the globe many of them met through her quest to cultivate the perfect bloom.

With his boundless energy, if Luc isn't consumed in his endless sports watch out because he is pulling an outlandish prank...Lulu once woke up to find herself and Mimi sleeping in the huge cage in the conservatory with the displaced birds inhabiting her bedroom.

The Papier Family will be showing up a whole lot more often and you can take them home from paper wings productions on Friday, June 15, 2012.

If you want to introduce yourself to them they would love to meet you!

Also, check out The Aviary this week for swatches from projects using the all new paper wings productions stamps and today's post HERE to see Louise in action.

Happy creating,
Shay.

Dear Reader,

Holy Toledo...I can't believe I didn't post at all here in May!  I am here and busy.  In fact for anyone interested some new designs of mine (aka post script press) are going to be released by paper wings productions on June 15th.  I will have to introduce you to them soon.  There are sneak peeks to the new stamps on The Aviary this week and next.  If you want to see a peek at mine specifically please look at this post HERE. Which are mine?  The first two (they are each part of a series of stamps).  Wait until you see them in action...they are fun!

Oh and anyone in the San Antonio area, this Sunday (June 10, 2012) you will be able to buy the new stamps before anyone else at Stamp Antonio (noon-4 p.m.).  Plus, we will be doing some fun *free* make n' takes using the brand new stamps (try before you buy).

Happy creating,
Shay.

Sweet Cupcake

Dear Reader,

I recently made a couple of birthday cards using the sweet cupcakes from Hey Cupcake from paper wings productions from handmade by Lissie girl.  They use the main cupcake image, but seem pretty different.  I like how changing up the colors and papers used can create a new project even when using one stamp.  All the papers, but the black rose flocked paper (which is Anna Griffin) are from Crate Paper's Paper Hearts and Farmhouse 6x6 paper pads.

Elegant, but still whimsical.  I really love that this set also has that adorable cupcake stand:

This one is more eclectic and I decided to use the Life Framer to frame the cupcake along with the "party" stamped in the bottom right hand corner.

Inside I framed the "happy birthday" from Let's Eat Cake with the frame from Day Framer which was actually a suggestion by my sister.  The cute little candles are also from Let's Eat Cake:

I hope you are enjoying a delightful day!

Happy creating,
Shay.

Introducing Framers Part II

Dear Reader,

Today I bring you some more examples of the uses of the Framer stamp sets now available for pre-order (and on sale for a limited time) at Paper Wings Productions.

We focus on the Details and Life Framer stamp sets.

Details Framer

I decided to do a journaling card showing how the frame in the Details Framer set framing a photo easily fits on a Project Life journaling card with plenty of space for some journaling along with embellishments.  In the background is the clock from the Melange Women 2 set from Paper Wings Productions

Life Framer

Here you see the frame from the Life Framer set paper pieced.  It is a great way to add interest or tie the frame into whatever project you are working on.  The woman framed is from the Melange 3 set from Paper Wings Productions.  I also wanted to show you how the frame looks on the ATC without being attached to a tag:

Thinking outside the frame:

Here I decided to use the 4 frame images in the Day, Details, Life & Snapshot Framer sets to create a background/patterned paper for a scrapbook layout (this would also work great on a card, tag, mini album, multi media project or an art journaling page).  Please don't snicker at my laughable attempt at scrapbooking please...or at least not too loudly.  I thought it would be good to show how the Framer sets really work well for documenting for life.

Lastly, today I wanted to show you how you could use the frame from the Details Framer set to create a tab on your project:

I used the lovely Happy Days and Let's Eat Cake stamp sets from Paper Wings Productions to create this card in addition to the frame from Details Framer.

I hope this has helped to illustrate what the Framer stamp sets can help you make.  I plan on exploring the Framer sets more and sharing those discoveries with you.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments you have.  I would *love* to see anything you create with them.  Feel free to email me or comment here with a link.

Happy creating,
Shay.

Introducing Framers

Dear Reader,

Today, I am thrilled to share with you the Framer sets that I designed and are now available for pre-order at Paper Wings Productions

To understand what these sets are all about I created this diagram (click on any image to make them bigger):

I created these Framers with Project Life, ATCs, tags and card making in mind to name a few things.  The images include hand drawn images, handwritten words along with a font that makes mixing up the two fun.
Here is how they work:

Like the diagram mentions above, the borders can be used in conjunction with the frames or as backgrounds.  They can be added to any tag, journaling card, card, layout or tag as a border, decorative element or as a line.

The words from the sets all work with each other and the frames and borders.  You can add the day of the week onto any of the frames for instance or use the words on a card, mini book, tag, gift or whatever you can dream up.

The frames can be used to: frame an image, sentiment or picture; add a focal point to an ATC, card, tag, layout or other art; to give a new perspective or feel to an image--for instance you can mask off part of an image to spotlight just one part of a stamp; to create scenes using stamps; the frames can be used to create gift tags; as a journaling spot; to make mini-albums; and other things soon-to-be discovered.  The frames will easily fit on both ATCs and the larger Project Life journaling cards not to mention anything larger than either of those items.  You can paper piece these frames, color them in

Here are just a couple of examples of how the Framer sets may be used:

Day Framer

You will notice that the geisha from the Geishas set could have been contained within the inner oval frame, but I decided to let her also go onto the onto the larger frame.  The frame in the Day Framer set is one stamp, but you could easily use just the rounded rectangle or just the oval.  On the image above the oval looks like it is cut out and put on top of the rounded rectangle frame with dimensional adhesive, but for this card I simply used Copics to give it a shadow.  I also shaded in the the rectangle frame so it would recede from the eye a bit.

Snapshot Framer

You will notice that the birds from Birds of a Feather go off the frame, but for a different look you could mask off the edge of the frame so the stamps were contained within the inner rectangle.  The words "with" "love" are found in the set and fit perfectly on the snapshot frame for a sentiment or label for the frame.

I hope you have found this helpful.  Come back very soon for more about the Framers and other Paper Wings Productions stamps.

Introducing postscript press

Dear Reader,

I have been busy making samples for the upcoming Paper Wings Productions website launch (tomorrow March 1st) and I have loved working with designs by people I know.  Sunday was an even more exciting experience: I made samples using stamps I had designed.  I actually did some skipping and a jump into the air.  If I had ever had ballet lessons, I would have done some graceful leaps (as it is I do awkward, silly leaps).  I was over-the-moon- thrilled to be inking up stamps I had drawn...to ink up my handwritten words...to use the stamps exactly how I had envisioned them to work together.

I decided to design under the name postscript press as I love the art of correspondence, adding those little finishing touches at the end and I feel that correspondence is a way to celebrate, develop and strengthen the connections that make life extraordinary and special.

For some peeks of my stamps sets check out what is framing (and some of the patterns behind) the focal images.  I hope these stamp sets will help to expand the use of and also emphasis the rest of the Paper Wings Productions stamps or whatever else you dream up.  I will be giving you a run down of the stamp sets upon their release.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Happy creating,
Shay.
